Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ´«Ã½ is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ´«Ã½alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ´«Ã½, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Tausig, Dr. Mark B. Fund
The Dr. Mark B. Tausig Fund was established in 2014 through a generous gift from Dr. Tausig to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ´«Ã½'s Department of Sociology. Initially dedicated to supporting graduate student development, the fund was revised in 2025 to reflect updates to the university’s curriculum.
This gift represents the unique appreciation Dr. Tausig has for the department's faculty, staff, and students. In over 30 years of service, Dr. Tausig has shown an exemplary commitment to student success, and the establishment of this annual fund continues that commitment through philanthropy.
The Mark B. Tausig Fund assists full- or part-time students earning a major or minor in sociology at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ´«Ã½ to complete and present research.
To be eligible for consideration, students must:
- Be in good academic standing with the University;
- Be conducting research under the supervision of a sociology faculty member; and
- Submit an application including a budget and brief narrative (250-500 words) about the impact of the project on the student and/or their academic experience.
The intent of this award is to support student research. Funds may be used for expenses associated with completion and presentation of research. This includes tuition and other expenses associated with honors projects or independent studies, academic-related travel to conferences, supplies, and funds needed to complete research or present results. The award may be renewed for students who reapply and continue to meet all criteria. Awards used for expenses other than qualified educational expenses are reportable and may be taxable to the recipient.
The Undergraduate Committee in the Department of Sociology will review applications, identify eligible candidates, and forward names to the Director of Undergraduate Studies, who will make the final decision on awards.
